Why yes! A Pug In The Box.....
I have been in one of my creative modes....instead of thinking "outside the box" I suppose you can call this one thinking "inside the box" ! I thought I would do some repurposing of this sweet wonderful vintage very old jack-in-th-box. When I found this old toy I was so excited....I knew exactly what I was going to do with it...but not quite sure which of my characters I would make for it. This is one of those old sturdy cardboard jack-in-the-boxes with the tin red scalloped rim and tin cover. These don't usually survive because they are of cardboard.....but the graphics on this piece is outstanding! The poor old clown head that was inside was broken and the crank popup music no longer works....... So it was time to repurpose this old classic toy! I removed the clown head, kept the original red & white polka dot fabric that covers the spring. Added my Pug dog character head and clown outfit made from vintage textiles......attached him to the spring and now there is a very unique one-of-a-kind vintage toy to start a whole new beginning again ;) I just love how this piece turned out....the colors are soooooo wonderful! And yes, it has both the vintage circus theme charm as well as being an old toy!
He is for sale right now on ebay as a 3-day auction style with no reserve. I have tons of pictures so you simply must check him out. If you collect antique toys...then you won't be disappointed in this OOAK piece. Click here for the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180620141224&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
Wendi,
ReplyDeleteI think you are outstanding with what you do, ive never seen anything like it and there are a lot of old ted Bears hanging around over here in the UK :-)
I am always stopping by your site and blog just to look at these beautiful cuties.
Your Bears are my total favourite the your pugs!
We have a Pug called 'Poppy' she's ruling the roost here, she been with us now for only 5 months and she is definatly the boss now lol!
It makes me sad to think i may never own one of your pieces, i'm currently off with a hip that dislocates on it's own which has caused a blood clot so lots of hospital and Doc trips at the moment,i'm only 29 but feel 99 ;-/
So looking at your Bears makes me smile and it's almost a bit of escapism for me for a moment :-)
Keep doing what your doing, you truly have an amazing gift.
