Update on Zoey

First of all I want to thank everybody for all your thoughts and prayers for Zoey. They must have worked because she does not need surgury.

The vet kept her overnight. She ate really good and never vomited for them. She was very active this morning with them and appeared to be just fine so they said she could go home. They had given her a pill the other day and were able to see the progress of the pill going through her system ...so far it is working its way just fine. And because she stopped vomiting they don't think she is blocked. They think she has gastrointestinal virus/infection. They gave me some medicine this morning and special feeding instructions and was able to take her home.

She has been with me here at the studio for about and hour...she did poop but no button found...although it was really really hard....so maybe she is constipated too.

I don't know yet if she is back to herself . At the vet she seemed fine but since she has been back here with me ....not under the "VET STRESS" she still does nost seem normal......so I will be keeping a very watchful eye on her. :( Maybe it will just take a couple days for her to feel better again....like she has the flu or something and needs rest......

God I wish she could just tell me what the heck is wrong!!!!!

Zoey Needs Your Prayers :(

I have been a mess over here with my little Zoey......she has been very sick for the past day...vomiting and not eating.   And to make matters worse, I think it was Friday when she got into a stash of my old buttons here in the studio. I believe she swallowed one :( She just loves to find stuff to get into here in the studio, no matter how hard I try to keep things put away and out of harms way for her....she still manages to get into trouble behind my back.

So I took her to the vet yesterday telling him that I think she may have the button blocked in her intenstines. He did xrays and found nothing, but because the button is plastic it won't show up......so he said we will treat her for vomiting for now and go from there.   Last night she would not eat and just drank water like crazy....just very very quite and wants to be left alone on her chair. Normally she would sleep in bed with me but did not want to leave her chair.   She is definately not herself. Although she stopped vomiting because of the shot he gave her she still was not getting better.

Very early this morning she ate a little bit and she did a small little poopie....(no button found in it)....I thought she might be getting better but not so. The vet called me this morning to see how she was doing, but I had told him she still is not herself. He said I could wait awhile to see if things got better but I don't want to wait just in case it is the button obstruction in her intestines.....the longer you wait the chances of recovery get worse.

So I immediately brought her back there for more testing. I had to leave her for the day and possibly the night depending on what they find out. There is a Barium test they will do which will tell them if there is an obsruction.....if so, then I'm finding out via google that surgery is pretty much the only solution.   I'm sitting here now typing away and getting so worried just waiting for that phone call from the vet to see if they find out what is wrong with her..........

I was just asking if you could send a little prayer up for her?   I will keep you posted on what I find out about her. It's funny how our little animals are just like our children, part of the family, and how attached we get to them :(

Introducing a NEW DESIGN....the ToY Companion dogs! I LOVE the way this boston terrier turned out. It was a challenge to design but well worth the effort in the end. (only took me 4 times).... His head is very unique and it SWIVELS (fully jointed) and does not sit like a doll head but rather more like a realistic dog neck would be. That took some time to design too ;) He still has my style too!

Creamy Dreamy Softly Distressed SET

Wow.... I just love this pair! It's so hard to explain but the colors and the feel of them are gorgeous. It's like the old soft creamy linens in a vintage cottage...kinda feel and look....if ya know what I mean. I made this wonderful sailor top with vintage feedsack material (you can see the writing on the sleeve trims and back of collar) and very old antique blue linen material. AND the handyed fur color of the bear is wonderful....it's like the color of old linen paper?! For this bear, I did a rare BROWN color embroidered nose because I wanted that vintage old softly aged appeal.

This is my rendition of two antique toys that were created in 1904....very popular characters and I have fell in love with them both :))))))) I hope you like them as much as I loved designing them. This awesome magazine had seen my work and contacted me for an interview to be featured in the "ART ATTACK" section of the magazine. Needless to say, I was totally honored and very excited. Oh Hell...... Went back to Hospital....

Just when I thought I was on the road to recovery......bamm.... back in the hospital on friday. I had a doctor appointment Friday and my pressure was back in scary 200's again..... he was concerned about my brain swelling again...... so he immediately sent me back to the hosptial :( I ended up staying in there for the whole weekend :( They needed to get the pressure down again & tweek my medications again........so now I am home & hopefully my body can adjust to these medicines and get used to these new low blood pressure levels. My body has been so high strung for years that it just doesn't know how to run on "normal" blood pressure levels. I have made alot of adjustments to my diet as well.

So I am taking it easy and just taking one day at a time ..... the doctors say I can get back to making my little characters again.....so hopefully soon, I will have some more pieces made! Especially with Christmas fast approaching I will do my best :)

I want to thank you all so very much for all your wonderful comments, emails and helpful suggestions and especially for "holding my hand" while I walk through this touchy time of my life!!!!!

My Scary Wake Up Call !!!

I don't know how to start this post but here goes. I landed myself in the hospital emergency room last friday and was in the intenstive care unit since monday....I am finally home but my body is still trying to figure everything out.

You see I was feeling perfectly fine friday, however, around 1 pm I just started coughing and thinking I was coming down with a chest cold. (mind you I don't smoke) but the cough kept getting worse like I had alot of phlem. I thought, I should try to cough it up and as I did.......it was not phlem but ALOT of BLOOD. Well, needless to say I was terrified! I just kept coughing up lots of bright red blood. Weird thing is, it did not hurt. Thankfully my husband had just stopped to see me at my studio to say goodbye to me because he was heading out to meet his friends at their hunting camp for the weekend. He happened to be with me when I was coughing all this blood.....so he rushed me to our Urgent Care. As soon as they got me in, they were trying to take my blood pressure and it was just not registering.....it was way off the charts. The top number was well over 300. They immediatley gave me pills to lower the pressure and shipped me out in the ambulance to the hospital ER.

Once in the ER, they began with all the tests....chest xrays, nope I wasn't having a heart attack, then CT brain scan, yup - found abnormal brain images due to the high blood pressure.....did a full body CT scan with the die that runs through your body to see if my heart and blood vessals were working ok....all was fine. Doctors perplexed at this point. My coughing of blood stopped once the pressure subsided from the pills they gave me ....but pressure was still 280. They admitted me to the ICU to find a cause.

They were thinking it was my kidneys because I am young....nope did kidney tests...was fine......all blood work came back good accept low pottassium levels. Thought it was my heart, nope ...my echo test came back fine.

Then I had an MRI done on my brain to see what was abnormal....and yes, they found that my left side of my brain is swelled. Had more tests with a neurologist and he concluded that I had experienced some damage to the brain but should not be too serious as long as I control my blood pressure down under 200.

He was dead serious when he was talking to me at like 10pm on sunday night..... he says, you were very very very close to having a brain hemorrhage and could have died. You were very lucky you came to the ER when you did.

Once the doctors had my pressure down I was able to move out of ICU and go home the next day. (If you have been in a hospital for days, you know how badly you just want to get out and go home...needless to say I was sooooooooooo delighted to get home)

Now, my body is trying to work on keeping my pressure down but with all these meds, I feel aweful.....

The thing is that I am not over weight and I have been exercising regularly for 2 years now. I'm pretty heart healthy. My diet is not that bad, however, today I will be switching my coffee to decaf and my diet pepsi to decaf diet pepsi. ( as I am a diet pepsi freak and drink 2-3 a day). I have other life style changes that I will be making, such as trying to cut back on my STRESSFUL life...which means one thing is the need to re-evaluate my work/business......take a slower approach.....

I just want to say that this has been a very scary wake up call for me.... they say that High Blood Pressure is a silent killer and it nearly killed me....SOOOOOO I want to take this opportunity to wake you all up and have your blood pressure checked! If it is over 200 you really need to do something about it .....DON'T WAIT ! Just because you feel great like I did......does not mean that you can't die from it. And the other scary part is, that if I was not coughing blood I NEVER would have known anything was wrong with me!

They have determined I have had hypertention for years but I never knew. There are signs to look for ...like frequent headaches...which I have had frequent headaches for years (about 2-3 per week) but you all know .... I told myself I lead a stressful life so your gonna get headaches....so ya just take a tylenol and go on... right ?!! Wrong! A big sign is having headaches...have them checked. Also, about a week ago my right eye was occassionally seeing a little round hazy spot I was going to have it checked out with an eye doctor next week...but never made it.... Another big sign is change of vision! So there were signs that I ignored thinking it was just due to growing older or being stressed all the time........ stupid me!

The picture is of my arm when I was in ICU....kinda got bored in there, cuz they don't let you get out of bed.....but they let me keep my cell phone with me ;) They wanted me in the ICU all that time because then they can keep you hooked up on all the monitors as the machine would take my blood pressure every 15 minutes and I had all those wires hooked up on my heart.
Let me tell you it was a very scary ordeal for me and I NEVER want to go back to that again :(

sharing some pieces I brought to the show last weekend.....

Well first off I would like to THANK EVERYBODY who came to the Folk Art Festival show. And those of you gals who popped over to see me at my booth.....it was lovely to meet all of you....and you all know who you are :)))) A big hug & thank you to you all!

Despite the BIG WINTER SNOW STORM we got caught in...we even lost power, which I believe the northeast coast is still without power today...I still had a very fun and fantastic weekend. I was with 2 wonderful artists this year Maureen Carroll http://yesterdayes.blogspot.com/ who makes the most outstanding beautiful antique looking gameboards and whimsical dolls. You simply must go to her website and blog and check them out....you won't be disappointed! Maureen and I were roomies and had a blast....despite the fact we woke up to no power in our hotel, and 3am fire alarms blasting away for 20 min ...because of the storm, we still managed to take it in stride.

And, by golly, the show still remained open....thanks to those crazy New Englanders, they sure don't let anything stop them from shopping the show! We totally appreciate you still coming out and shopping!!!

Working in the Studio.....

WHat I have been doing.......busy working in the studio for the upcoming show on Oct 28-30th in Massachussets. Here is a little peek at a sweet BIGGER size French Bulldog I am working on.....just the head so far but it will be ready for the show :) There is no rest for the weary....wish I could turn the clock back a few more WEEKS ;) It never seems I have enough time to complete as many pieces as I want :(

A BIGGY BOSTON TERRIER.....

He is my first big 12" size boston terrier and his head is almost the life size. It is almost the size of my Zoey's head. After making many iTTY-BiTTY sized dogs.....this guy seems Gi-Normous to me ;) I decided not to dress this one just because I tinted him marking all around his body...perhaps the next pieces I will dress. I just gave him a vintage leather dog collar and a 1955 dog tag....you could even put your own dogs tag on him too ;)

Pumpkin Decorating

As promised, I took a picture this morning of a couple of my pumpkins we grew this year. Nestled next to my antique wheelbarrow and my adorable rabbit garden statue in the front of my house. I like to decorate simple during fall....and I have never been one to decorate for halloween as we live on a rural road and we never get little trick or treaters. I decorated a few times when my kids were little but not anymore.... I know others probably think of our house as the "Old Scrooges"!

This morning I went down to our garden and picked the last of the remaining veggies, lots of peppers, some cukes and some roma tomatoes......yum. I really love marinated grilled veggies cooked on the outdoor bbq.....and so does my oldest daughter. She is coming back from college for the weekend so it looks like we will be eating up the last of our garden bounty. We also got about 16 pumpkins this year from our little pumpkin patch....so now I have lots of pumpkins to decorate with. I put them around the house and will have to take a few pics of them.

I can't believe how time flys....in just a couple of weeks I will be exhibiting at the folkart festival show & sale. As always, I seem to wait until the last minute to prepare :( I hope to bring lots of goodies (big & small sizes) to the show. It is held in Marlborough Massachussets on Oct 28-30th. I have been wanting to make a bobblehead for a very long time.....and I finally got around to doing it! These little guys (8" tall) are free standing and have jointed arms and spring jointed necks so that the head can bob & sway just like a bobble head :)

He is one of my orginal unique "out of the box" designs and I have never seen anything like him before....I hope you like him as much as I had fun designing & making him!

I am very pleased to introduce to you my latest new dog design. I was just saying on my facebook page the other day that when I was working on this design, I finally think I found the name of "my style"...... Vintage Whimsical "CARICATURE " style ;) LOL ! Don'tcha think so too?

I enjoy designing new characters that are really different and outside the box, pieces that are unique and fresh..... just like this new little iTTY-BiTTY Basset Hound :)

I just finished up a NEW DOG BREED ..... the BEAGLE !! I am very pleased at how he turned out ....I stayed with the look of a traditional beagle (at least I think I did) He has the broad ears with the rust color markings and the black saddle marking on his back.
I also gave him a super cool unique charm piece...it is an antique ebony & bone domino and the one side I put an image of a vintage advertisement for DASH DOG FOOD and it has a sweet beagle in it ;)

Book Recommendation

Over the past year, I have been making some lifestyle changes....you can call it more "ME" time. For example, I have been faithfully going to the gym and working out at least 3 days a week. But just recently, I decided I wanted to get back into reading books. I love reading but never found time, especially with my 24/7 job and taking care of kids when they were younger and the horses of course ;) So my book reading always had to take a backseat. Well, now that my girls are older I have more "ME" time. I am one of those people that like to read the book first before seeing the movie. To me, the books are always way better than the movie. But the way I read it would cost me a fortune if I had to buy every book. If the book is good, I can sit and read it within 2 nights. So I joined my local library and and took out some books that are suppose to become movies in the future. The first book I finsihed was "Blood Red Road" it was good, different, more si-fi....reminded me of the mad max thunderdome movie. But the next book I took out was called "Tigers Curse". Really a great read. Auther was inspired by the Twilight series and she is writing 5 books for this saga. However, these books do not have vampires ;) I am going to be reading the next book in the series....I have read all the reviews and they say it is better than book #1. Now my daughter is reading the first book and I know she will really love it. Rumor has it that this series will become a movie.....just like the twilight books did.......so thought I would recommend a good read for you , especially if you like to read the books before movies. Hooray!!! My youngest daughter graduated from high school this weekend. I'm so proud of her. Now she will be off to college in the fall along with my other daugher. Wow! I can't believe I will be an "empty nester" in a couple months. I got used to my older daughter away to college last year, so I am prepared for when the baby goes off......well, at least I think I am anyway. I'm such a "softie" I pretty much cry at all major events. I even cry when they give me sentimental cards...ack! What will I be like when they actually get married..... I can wait on that event!

We had such a gorgeous weekend. All sunshine and warm temps! We took the fathers up to Alexandria Bay 1000 Islands for a lunch & scenic cruise on the Uncle Sam Boat Tours and we also toured Boldt Castle.....was a fantastic afternoon.

And we took little Zoey out for ice cream. She got a little doggy sundae.....it's vanilla ice cream with little dog bisquits.....boy did she LOVE this treat! And my boys enjoying the sunshine as well!

Seaside Cottage Dreamy Hound Dog

When the weather finally turns nice and summertime is just around the corner....I get inspired by light fresh colors, creamy whites and the old shabby cottage style that is sooooo popular these days. I haven't made a hound dog in awhile and wanted to make one in lighter cottage colors. I started to experiment with mixing colors and Viola! ....got this wonderful dreamy color I will call "sandstone". I have him listed on ebay right now. This is my second bull dog in my newest design.......these pieces are challenging but oh so much fun to make :) I did him in my iTTY-BiTTY size too. He wears a simple rusted chain around his neck with an antique skeleton key and metal tag. He has lots of handsculpted details on his face. A Whirl Wind Of Activity .........

here at the Whendi's Bear Homefront! Not much toy making has been accomplished this week......but.......we just celebrated my youngest daughter's 18th Birthday this week (pictured above) .... and...she had her Senior Ball . Her and her date (above) looked fabulous ! We went to a butterfly garden in the lake park to take some pictures. It was kinda bittersweet for me, as this is the last of the proms & balls because she is also graduating this June from high school....yikes! She will be off to college in the fall....and will be playing basketball on the women's college team...... AND...... we had to take the 3hr drive out to pick up my older daughter at her college, help her pack up her things from her dorm room and drive the 3 hrs back home. I'm really proud of her...she made it through her freshman year ......yay! Phew, now I should be able to get back into the creative mode again.......stay tuned.

She's a 1969 Volkswagon Convertible Beetle

You see, friends of ours own collector cars, and he has owned this girl since 1995. She has been stored away for 10 years before he began to work on her. Last year he finally was able to put her on the road. And I finally was able to take a ride with her the other day. She was just like a well worn comfortable pair of jeans !!! She's not quite fully restored but I don't care. My friend has been talking about selling her, he needs room in his garage for "other" toys now...... OMG the heck with the girls college fund....... I need a "BUG" fund! ...LOL.... [sigh] A girl can dream ya know.......

A fun and funky original FOLK ART whimsical style ToY CAT !

He is a new design and a one-of-a-kind piece too.

I had so much fun creating this piece and making something unique and "outside the box" for me ;) I took a little break on the iTTY-BiTTY size and created this piece in my Cabinet size. He has a slightly large head and the smaller body, all handtinted features with unique stitched outlined facial features.....and the coolest eyes ever ;) I used vintage buttons for the eyes which really makes this piece a one-of-a-kind. I made him the clown cone hat covered in vintage fabrics & trims, his clown ruff also vintage trims and the vintage childs toy wood letter block/tile that dangles from rusted chain.

I love making these new designs....they have such character and charm.....those little faces are just so darn cute and have lots of details too. They each take on their own personality after I finally get them finished ;)
I have completed a little ToY Circus Boston Terrier..in my newest design......he is the one standing and pulling the wagon with his cousin...the Frenchie! Love the "bug eye" look....just like a boston....LOL.

I did him in the old shabby colors of pale pinks & gray/blues......reminds me of a seaside carnival prize from the early 1900's......it could almost be one, as the head is an actual antique bisque german doll head and the vintage pin is original.
